During November and December, Rena Bransten Gallery will present a group exhibit call Abstraction which will include works by Francesca Pastine, Paul Henry Ramirez, Jessica Snow and Amy Wilson. The artists in Abstraction put similar organic motifs to wildly dissimilar uses. Francesca Pastine's elaborate cutout paint sheets of repetitive designs are tacked to square panels spilling off the edges like complex decorative fringes or lace. Paul Henry Ramirez employs droplets, hair, effervescent dots, and squirt shapes to energize his surfaces. Jessica Snow floats repetitive lozenges of color, crosshatches, beaded lines, and dot clusters in deep space with tightly outlined forms sharing the ether. Amy Wilson pairs swirling ribbon-like forms with flat shapes of gradient color that appear to be female body parts or desserts - both with details supporting either interpretation. All the artists rely on abstraction to broaden the meanings of their imagery.
