PRESS RELEASE
Francesca Pastine's paintings in curtain cloud water "...probe the mutability of form and meaning - the alchemical process occurring between the physicality of paint and material, the implied image, and the imagination. The painted surfaces are achieved by applying multiple patterns or layered glazes; they act as gateways or sites for contemplation. Imagery is suggested but never dictated. Meaning surfaces through the push and pull between process, material, and form. Since these relationships are never static, the work is allowed to remain open-ended. The paintings invite viewer participation and interpretation; their potency resides in their ability to charge the imagination."
Francesca Pastine received her BFA and MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. She currently teaches at both the San Francisco City College and San Francisco Art Institute. This is her third solo exhibition with Rena Bransten Gallery.
