PRESS RELEASE
Paul Seawright's photographs for his "hidden" series were commissioned by the Imperial War Museum of Britain to commemorate and interpret British involvement in modern conflicts. He was asked by the Art Commissions Committee to respond, specifically, to the terroristattack of 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan. In 2002, Seawright went to Afghanistan. The photographs show a desolate, timeless landscape of roads, ruins, mounds, mountain, and desert. What are not shown but are ever present are the landmines under the camel trails, the bombs that destroyed the buildings, and the military vehicles that moved the earth, buried the bodies, and laid the barbwire and anti-personnel devices.

Mr. Seawright was born in Belfast, Ireland and represented Wales in the 2003 Venice Biennale. His photographs are in the collections of the Ulster Museum in Belfast, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Strasbourg, and the International Center of Photography in New York.
