During July and August, the Rena Bransten Gallery will present SHOW TIME, an exhibition of works by gallery artists including Rebeca Bollinger, Matthias Hoch, Candida Höfer, Nicky Hoberman, Hung Liu, Peter Mitchell-Dayton, Tracey Moffatt, Martin Mull, Rachael Neubauer, Francesca Pastine, Irene Pijoan, Paul Henry Ramirez, Brett Reichman, and Henry Wessel. Works by these artists relate to the hype, chicanery, and theatricality of promotion, often directly referencing theatrical spaces and show business. They describe the service industries (seating, scenery, staging, curtains, décor, packaging, and props) and even the psychology supporting “spectacle” businesses. The advertising, entertainment, and theater worlds engage and seduce viewers/audiences with their enhanced versions of the “norm” or the “exotic”; artists in this exhibit explore the art and artifice of that world further manipulated by their own visions.
